The word "Licorice” actually refers to the root of a plant called Glycyrrhiza glabra which is native to Europe and Asia. In fact, the early Egyptians loved Licorice root. It was used in tea as a cure-all concoction and was later imported to China where it became an important herb in Chinese medicinal tradition.
